On Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Parmalat Canada Inc. and the City of Montreal will be conducting an emergency warning siren test. The siren test will last approximately 3 minutes and will likely be heard throughout the Montreal West territory.
Why such a test in Montreal West?
Parmalat Canada Inc. located at 7470, rue Saint-Jacques West, in Montreal, uses ammonia as a refrigerant to conserve products at their proper temperatures.
In the event of an industrial accident involving the release in the air of ammonia, the warning siren of Parmalat Canada Inc. will allow the population situated in the perimeter of the impacted area to be notified as quickly as possible.
The siren testing is therefore a technical test to verify the proper functioning of the equipment, as well as the state of readiness of all the interveners in case of an emergency.
What should you do when you hear the siren?
- Immediately enter the nearest building.
- Close the doors and windows and turn off the ventilation system.
- Leave your children in school, so neither you nor your children are exposed.
- Avoid using the phone to keep lines open for emergency personnel.
