The Projet de l’aqueduc de l’Ouest, a major construction project by the City of Montreal, will resume in Montreal West and NDG as of April 7, 2025, with work lasting about four months on Sherbrooke St. West between West Broadway and Brock N.
The City of Montreal is building water mains to improve and secure potable water supply to the western part of the island of Montreal. This project will be carried out over a 10-year period. For more information on this project.
A team of experts will plan measures to mitigate noise, vibrations, dust and odours caused by the use of tools and other construction equipment
Road closures during phase 1 of the work (estimated duration: 8 weeks)
- Rue Sherbrooke, westbound: fully closed between Rue West Broadway and Avenue Westminster Nord
- Rue Sherbrooke eastbound: one lane open between Rue West Broadway and Avenue Westminster Nord for local traffic only
- Closure of the Elmhurst crossing
- Avenue Connaught, Avenue Trenholme, Avenue Patricia and Avenue Westmore: local traffic only and two-way configuration for the duration of the work
Please follow the signs installed around the construction sites to ensure safety and optimize traffic flow. Detours will be in place and clearly indicated. Be aware that speed limits and parking restrictions may change and will be marked with appropriate signage.
Note: The construction will be completed in phases, and timelines may be affected by factors such as the weather. As a result, closures might be complete or partial, and detours will be clearly marked with signage according to the phases of work.
Schedule
- Regular construction work will occur Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Water service interruption
Should water service be interrupted, the City of Montreal will distribute a flyer to each affected building indicating the date, time and duration of the interruption, at least 48 hours before the water is shut off.
