The City of Montreal and its contractor Hudson Six (mandated by Montreal for all repairs on pipes 14 inches and larger) are carrying out emergency repairs to the leak on the 14 inch primary water main line at the corner of Brock South and Broughton. A water break on a primary water main of this size represents a significant break that may involve complicated and arduous repairs.

This is a top priority for the Town of Montreal West and we will continue to do everything in our control to collaborate with the City of Montreal and facilitate their work schedule.

We will keep you informed as new information comes to light.

Vehicular traffic

Broughton Road will be closed to traffic in both directions between Westminster and Elmhurst during the work. A detour route will be in effect. Temporary signs will be installed to inform motorists of how to proceed around the work. Please respect all temporary traffic signs.

Ballantyne South and Brock South are open to local traffic only for the duration of the work.

Water closure notice

The water has been shut off on Brock South between Broughton and Avon on July 20 starting at 11 a.m. The closure may last until 6 p.m. A codeRED was sent out to affected residents.

Water pressure

Due to fact that the water break is on a primary water main of this size, water pressure will be low in the South section of Town and could impact other parts of Town as well.

Discoloured water

Is your tap water discoloured? Is it yellow, brown, grey or red (rust-coloured)? Normally this situation won’t last long and it is easy to eliminate by following a few steps before consuming the water.

  • Open the cold water tap. If in a house, use the bathtub tap, or if not, then the kitchen sink.
  • If the tap has an aerator, first unscrew the tip to remove it.
  • Let the cold water run until it is clear. Now you can drink it.
  • To prevent staining clothing or damaging an appliance, be sure the water runs clear before doing your laundry or using an appliance that uses water.

Special pickups

Our team started special pickups yesterday morning and will continue with special pickups as long as needed. Residents do not need to notify Public Works, simply put your discarded items by the curb and they will be picked up over the next few weeks.
