The purpose of a Netiquette, or internet etiquette, is to establish guidelines and norms for respectful and responsible behaviour on the Town’s online platforms. Netiquette aims to promote positive interactions and communication in the online environment, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect among users.

The goal of our platforms is to provide residents with information and to contribute to the visibility of the Town of Montreal West.

  • Providing accurate information. If any information is found to be inaccurate or incomplete, it will be promptly corrected or removed.
  • We cannot always feed nor monitor our accounts. Therefore, any emergency should be reported to 911. Moderation is generally carried out during office hours, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
  • Respecting intellectual property and image rights. When users publish comments or images on our platforms, we assume that they comply with the law and own the rights to disseminate the content.
  • Reading and considering all comments made on our platforms. However, we do not commit to respond to all messages or comments, particularly those expressing opinions.
  • Not responding to complaints about the Town or any of its departments or staff members on social networks. Questions must be submitted via the Town’s web form which you can access here.
  • Dealing with Requests and queries with a confidential component in private.

To ensure that exchanges remain courteous and respectful, here are the netiquette rules users are expected to follow when interacting on our platforms.

  • Must be clear and deal with subjects that affect the Town’s operations. If this is not the case, we reserve the right to delete them.

  • Must be respectful, harmonious and courteous. You can express your disagreement with an idea while respecting others and Town staff.

  • Opinions and points of view between users are encouraged as long as they do not turn into a private discussion between two or more people.
