Inventory of historical buildings in Montreal West

Amended in 2021, the Cultural Heritage Act now requires municipalities to adopt and periodically update an inventory of buildings built before 1940 that have heritage value. On the island of Montreal, this inventory represents more than 87,000 buildings, and the City of Montreal has been mandated to carry it out

The Town of Montreal West is participating in this project. We would like to inform you that beginning on June 9, employees from the firm Architecture 49 will be conducting an inventory and photographing buildings throughout the Town. This site survey is expected to continue until mid-August.

Although most photographs will be taken from the public domain (street, sidewalk, alley, etc.), access to your property may be required in some cases. We ask for your cooperation in providing such access.

At no time does the inventory require employees to come inside buildings.

This project is part of the Quebec government’s initiative to develop a tool designed to better understand and protect the province’s real estate heritage. The inventory has been deployed in all boroughs and demerged cities in the agglomeration since 2023 and will continue until 2026.

If you have questions about these inventories, we invite you to contact the Urban Planning Department through the Contact us form.
