Exceptional snow storms – progress update

Category : Public Works
February 17, 2025

The Town is facing the aftermath of two major snowstorms that brought a staggering 74 cm of snowfall in a short period, significantly complicating snow removal operations. Strong winds further added to the challenge, creating hazardous conditions and slowing down clearance efforts.

Our crews have been working around the clock since last Thursday to manage the snow accumulation. Between last Friday and Saturday alone, nearly 34 cm of snow was cleared across 70% of the Town. Priority has been given to main roads and school zones to ensure accessibility and safety.

While streets have been plowed to allow safe passage, full-scale snow removal operations have now begun and are expected to take a minimum of 5 to 6 days. Given the immense volume of snow, snow will be blown onto lawns and greenspaces where necessary, though crews will still load trucks when possible.

Sidewalk clearing will be delayed, as there is currently insufficient space for snow removal trucks to pass.

Waste collections cancelled

All waste collection services (garbage, recycling and compost) have been temporarily suspended this week. The presence of curbside bins and collection trucks could interfere with snow clearing operations on narrow streets. Unless otherwise specified, collection will resume as usual next week.

A collective effort

  • Due to the exceptional snowfall, snow removal operations will take longer than usual to complete. Rest assured that all streets and sidewalks will be cleared in the coming days. We kindly ask residents not to contact the Town to request non-urgent snow removal for specific areas, as crews are working diligently to ensure all areas are addressed.
  • Residents are urged to exercise caution while commuting and to follow Town updates regarding ongoing snow removal efforts.
  • Avoid parking on the street if possible to help crews clear the roads faster.
  • Limit non-essential travel to allow crews to work more efficiently and keep everyone safe.
  • Do not put your bins out for collection this week

Thank you for your collaboration and understanding.
