A joint working committee was created as part of the consultation process. The committee is comprised of Hydro-Québec representatives, Montreal West representatives and members of the public.
The committee wishes to provide an update on the discussions that began last June to improve the portion of the Hydro-Québec project that affects the territory of Montreal West. The project involves conversion of the existing 120-kV overhead transmission line to 315 kV over 18 km between LaSalle and Saint-Laurent.
The committee is seeking to maximize the project’s advantages for residents while limiting any undesirable impacts to the greatest extent possible. It will address the public’s concerns and help to improve the project. The committee was also tasked with assessing opportunities for multifunctional uses of the line right-of-way, such as landscaping and a multi-use trail.
On October 23, Hydro-Québec organized an open house/information evening to gather residents’ initial reactions to the project. This input has provided direction for the discussions of the working committee. A second information meeting will be held in spring 2020 to present the results from the committee. Here again, the questions and comments of Montreal West residents will allow the project to be further improved. The committee will submit its final recommendations to Hydro-Québec and to the Town of Montreal West by spring 2020 at the latest.
