Earth Day: the Town will adopt its first Residual Materials Management Policy

Dear Resident,

On this Earth Day, we are pleased to announce that we will adopt our very first waste management policy on Thursday 22 during a special council meeting.

It is the result of our desire to respond to the current issues on our territory. With a dynamic population and municipal apparatus, we have begun a strategic planning process in 2019 to ensure a change in culture aimed at better sorting at the source and reducing waste, both at the citizen level and at the municipal administration level.

This policy is part of the modernization of waste management in Quebec. The major orientations adopted aim to contribute to the achievement of the objectives targeted by the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, such as:

  • Strive for Zero Waste;
  • Increase the rate of residual materials diverted from landfill;
  • Promote a collaborative and collective intelligence culture.

We wish to thank the citizens who participated in the workshop held in November 2019 on the theme of the environment, the Environmental Action Committee led by Councillor Maria Torres, the employees who participated in the development of the policy as well as our collaborators: Cycle Environnement, Coop Incita and Concertation Montréal (CMTL) who accompanied us with their expertise and dedication.

The adoption of this policy is only the beginning of major changes on the issue. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements to participate in the consultation activities that will precede the adoption of our action plan.

Let’s take care of ourselves and of our planet, happy Earth Day.
