The Town of Montreal West would like to inform its citizens of a major road closure to take place on Westminster Avenue South. Starting October 12, Westminster Avenue South will be completely closed to traffic between Avon Road and Ainslie Road.
This closure is expected to last approximately three weeks and is necessary for the relocation of the water and sewer lines as part of the redevelopment project at 45 Westminster Avenue South. Due to the depth of the work on the street, temporary crossing on weekends will not be possible. Schedule delays may occur in the case of bad weather conditions or any other unforeseen event.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this work.
This road closure will have significant impacts on traffic in our Town. To help you get around during the work, detour routes will be set up. We recommend following the signs that will be installed indicating the route to take and to allow extra time when travelling.
- Coming from Sherbrooke towards Westminster, drivers will have to take a right on Westminster. Drivers must take Brougthon Road to access Ainslie.
- Coming from Westminster North towards Avon, drivers will have to take a left on Sherbrooke and a right on Elmhurst in order to get to Avon Road.
- Coming from Ainslie toward Westminster South, drivers will have to take a left on Westminster and a right on Broughton and another right on Connaught or Elmhurst in order to get to Avon Road.
- Coming from Brynmor, drivers will have to take a right on Avon and then a left on Elmhurst to access Sherbrooke.
The whole area between Broughton and Avon will be open to local traffic only.
Work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
Access to buildings
Westminster Ave South will remain open to local traffic only between Ainslie Road and the work zone that is right in front of 45 Westminster Ave S. Residents living at 25, 37, 39 Westminster Avenue South will be able to access their homes at all times.
Town Hall will be accessible from Easton Avenue.
The sidewalks on the east side of Westminster and north side of Avon will be closed, however the sidewalk on the west side of Westminster (in front of Town Hall) will remain open for pedestrians. Pedestrians may cross Westminster Ave South by using the crosswalk at the corner of Ainslie/Westminster.
