Here you will find general information on parking restrictions in the Town of Montreal West as well as all parking permits available to residents, merchants, and visitors.

Municipal parking lots

Montreal West has 5 municipal parking lots. All of these lots offer free 2 hour parking seven days a week between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m, and free overnight parking from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

  • Northview
  • Westminster North
  • Strathearn
  • Percival
  • Town Hall (50 Westminster South)

Restrictions

  • Street parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless signs indicate otherwise, except for certain permit holders. On Ronald, Roxton, and Westminster, parking is prohibited from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., except for permit holders.
  • There is a 4 hour parking limit on all streets in Montreal West unless signs indicate otherwise.
  • On some streets, parking restrictions come into effect April 1st to November 15th to facilitate street sweeping (these restrictions are indicated on signs).
  • Parking is prohibited, even for permit holders, when the Public Works Department or its duly authorized representatives have placed temporary signs prohibiting parking to allow the execution of road works, including snow removal or for any other reason, necessity or emergency.
  • During and after snowstorms, residents are asked to respect all temporary “No Parking” signs placed by the Public Works department for the purpose of snow removal. Snow removal hours are between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and can take place on any day of the week.
  • Sidewalks must not be blocked by vehicles sticking out from a driveway as sidewalk snow plows need the entire width of the sidewalk in order to safely clean it.

Parking outside of the restrictions outlined above requires a parking permit.

Parking Permits

This permit is available to residents with insufficient space to park their vehicle on their own property. It allows you to park on the street for up to 24 hours consecutively. Applications for this parking permit will be verified with a visit by a Public Security officer prior to issuance.  Temporary permits are issued in the interim.

No more than two Resident (24 hour) parking permits may be issued for the same dwelling.

Parking restrictions

  • The resident (24 hour) permit does not supersede other parking restrictions for street sweeping, snow removal and road work.
  • Vehicles must be moved at least 12 meters (2 car lengths) every 24 hours.
  • This permit may not be used where parking is allowed for less than 4 hours, principally in and around commercial and high traffic zones.

Eligibility

Common situations where a resident would be eligible to receive a permit:

  • You live in an apartment building and there are no available parking spaces.
  • You live in a house and your family has three cars but there is only enough room to park two of them in your garage and driveway.
  • You live in a duplex and the owner won’t rent a parking space to you.

Common situations where a resident would not be eligible to receive a parking permit:

  • You live in an apartment building or duplex and there are available parking spaces but they are too expensive.
  • You live in a house and have enough room to park the cars in the garage and driveway but you have to move the cars every morning so the car in the garage can get out.
  • You live in a house and have three cars. You have room for two cars in your driveway, but you are short one parking space because you use your garage parking space for storage.
